Cheryl Winnetka Ashley was born on July 8, 1954, in Dallas, Texas, to Rev. James H. Morgan Sr. and Ms. Iris P. Rubio, both of whom predeceased her. Throughout her life, Cheryl demonstrated dedication and resilience, having accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She attended L.G. Pinkston High School in Dallas, TX, where she formed lasting friendships and fostered her commitment to family unity. Cheryl was known for her joyful spirit, love of fashion, and above all, devotion to her family. As one of many siblings, she valued the strong family bonds that surrounded her. Her generosity and compassion extended to anyone in need, offering food, shelter, or companionship. Cheryl’s caring nature earned her the respect and admiration of her family, friends, and colleagues.
She enjoyed a successful career in the healthcare industry, where her passion for helping others enabled her to thrive. Later, she dedicated herself to being a stay-at-home mom and wife. Cheryl entered marriage with Charles E. Ashley, and they made their home in Grand Prairie, Texas for over 38 years. Their relationship was grounded in love, mutual respect, and shared commitments. Cheryl was a devoted mother to all her children: Cammye Humphrey (W.D), Donna Rubio, Teonna Sampson (Leon), Trevella Miller (David), Jimmie Hawkins Jr., Erick Hawkins (Tiffany), Chass, Timmy, Verporeum, Daffney, Demetrice, as well as four who preceded her in death.
She is survived by a loving family who will always cherish her memory—her sisters Felisha Dibbles (Mike), Elaine, Ernest, Steve, Delois, brother Ivin Charles Morgan, and five siblings who preceded her in death. She also leaves behind her aunt Myrtis Robinson and her special mother, Vator Morgan. Cheryl’s devotion extended to a large family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom were deeply influenced by her caring nature. Her extended family, including numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, were equally touched by her kindness and warmth. In addition to her relatives, Cheryl maintained a wide circle of friends; every relationship was enriched by her supportive and generous spirit. The profound impact she had on those around her is a lasting testament to her love and compassion.
Cheryl leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and unity. Her warmth, generosity, and vibrant spirit will always be remembered.
