Celebrating the Life & Legacy of Ruby Lee "Sissie" Upton
With hearts full of love and gratitude, we honor the beautiful life of Ruby Lee Upton,
affectionately known as "Sissie" of Cedar Hill, Texas. Born on March 29, 1957, she
walked into eternal glory with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday,
February 26, 2025.
Sissie was a woman of strength, love, and unwavering faith, leaving behind a legacy of
kindness, wisdom, and service. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Audrey
Johnson (Fisher) of Cedar Hill, TX, her brother, Victor Reed Upton (Yvonne) of Red
Oak, TX, her niece, Victoria Upton, her precious granddaughter, Olivia Johnson, and
her extended family, Ruben (Debra) Roberts of Moss Point, Mississippi. She is also
cherished by a host of beloved family members and dear friends. Now reunited in
heaven, she is welcomed into the arms of her loving parents, Ulyess “Rudy” Upton and
Rosia Lee Arnold Upton.
A Life of Service & Dedication: Sissie had a heart for service, dedicating her life to both her country and her community.
She served as a journalist in the United States Army for 2 ½ years before receiving an
honorable discharge. Following her military service, she pursued her passion for
nursing, earning her LPN certificate from Athens, TN Vocational College and serving in
the medical field for over 25 years. Her career was marked by deep compassion and a
commitment to caring for others. She worked in nursing home care, providing comfort to
the elderly, home health and hospice, offering grace and compassion to those in their
most vulnerable moments, and with The American Red Cross, where she not only
volunteered but also taught CNA classes for several years, shaping future caregivers
with her wisdom and passion.
A Heart for God & People: From an early age, Sissie confessed Christ and committed her life to serving Him. She
first became a member of Mt. Eagle Baptist Church and later joined Shiloh Missionary
Baptist Church, where she faithfully served as church secretary until becoming disabled
in 2008. Though her physical challenges changed aspects of her life, her faith never
wavered. She continued to serve God and encourage those around her with love,
wisdom, and grace. In the summer of 2013, she relocated to Texas with her mother and
daughter, beginning a new chapter filled with family, faith, and love.
A Life Well-Lived: Sissie embraced life with joy and enthusiasm, finding happiness in the simple yet
meaningful moments. She had a deep love for reading, always seeking knowledge and
growth, scrapbooking, treasuring and preserving special memories, and shopping, delighting in life’s little treasures. Her laughter, wisdom, and unwavering faith left an
indelible mark on everyone she encountered. Sissie’s legacy of faith, love, and generosity will continue to inspire all who knew her. As
we celebrate her homegoing, we hold onto the promise of Psalm 116:15, Precious in
the sight of the Lord is the death of His faithful servants. Though we grieve, we rejoice
in her victory! She has fought the good fight, finished her race, and now rests in the
arms of Jesus. Forever Loved. Forever Missed. Forever in Our Hearts.
